For our jubilee WWSF Meetup, we attended Woman on Fire by Marisela Treviño Orta, directed by Libby Vega. This was our third meetup at a Those Women Productions show (remember their production of Margaret of Anjou in 2016?) and also our third time seeing a premiere by Marisela Treviño Orta (we saw The River Bride at Alter Theater, and Heart Shaped Nebula at Shotgun).
Woman on Fire breathes contemporary truth into the Greek myth of Antigone, with a central character of Juanita, a woman ‘with one foot on each side of the border’.
This production features the following women theater artists: Regina Morones, Ciclady Rodriguez, Leah Sanginiti (actors), Emily Hill (stage manager), Carol Lashof (production management), Erica Newton (art), Vanessa Ramos (dramaturgy), Sharon Robinson (costumes), Audrey Ronningen (assistant stage manager).
Those Women Productions offers a “Radical Hospitality” program that welcomes all theater patrons, regardless of ability to pay. To purchase a ticket to Woman on Fire, visit https://womanonfire.brownpapertickets.com/ and choose a price that fits your budget. The show runs through September 9th.
If you saw the show with WWSF or on your own, feel free to leave a comment to let us know what you experienced!
