The Bay Area has an incredible wealth of talented women artists! Join us in celebrating the first annual SWAN Day Bay Area this Saturday, March 28th at 3pm at Shotgun Players’ Ashby Stage – reserve your FREE seat here. It’s been a busy month preparing for this event, which is hosted by WomenArts in collaboration with Playground and Symmetry Theatre. As a WomenArts board member, I have been collaborating with Executive Director Martha Richards and Bay Area actor/activist Valerie Weak to produce a report that features an in-depth analysis of gender data collected for 500 SF/Bay Area theater productions over the past three years by Valerie’s Counting Actors Project. WWSF has been proudly hosting Counting Actors Project monthly statistical reports for the past year, and I am very excited to share the results of this extraordinary data gathering effort with the theater community on Saturday. If you can’t attend SWAN Day Bay Area, you’ll also be able to access the full report here and on the WomenArts site starting next week.
SWAN Day Bay Area will also feature a reprise of staged readings of 3 plays from WomenArts Night at PlayGround, an evening of short plays on the theme of Herstory: The Greatest Story Never Told, as well as a staged reading of an excerpt from Katie May’s Abominable presented by Symmetry Theatre. A reception with wine and snacks will follow the presentation.
