In its story of two women former friends with divergent ambitions and body politics – the work examines the modern-day attitudes towards lighter skin tone for Filipina women and women of color, the global rise in cosmetic whitening product use, as well as the historical events and stereotypes perpetuated at the turn of the century: specifically the portrayal of Filipinos as ‘dark’ savages during the display of Filipinos at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair.”

Known for her “muscular and sharp” (CityBeat) writing, Carson Kreitzer traces the origin story and lasting impact of the comic character Wonder Woman through the life of her controversial creator, William Moulton Marston. The early 20th-century psychologist and father of the modern lie detector modeled his superheroine on two women – his wife and his former student – both of whom he lived with in a polyamorous relationship. In this inventive multimedia theatrical experience that combines live action with comic book illustration and animation, a contemporary young woman looks back and questions the knotty history behind the worldwide feminist icon.
